A new Spin string to test

It's the Weiss Cannon Ultra Cable.
After checking out the reviews and specifications of the string I just have to give it a go.
It's a medium-stiff poly so you need to drop the tention by about 4-5 pounds / 1.5kg , stringing is fine the square shape is or can be difficult at times but hey it's a poly.
It's also a 1.23 mm gauge string which is bigger than I normally use. With my powerangle I can go down to 1.10mm and still not snap a string.
I will play with it tomorrow and see what it's like.
Ok Saturday Club afternoon of mixed and men's doubles, balls are ex match balls, not as bad as normal.
First impression: not as much spin as I was expecting but it's not bad. The control and comfort is there and I can hit with a full swing and the balls are not flying out, so good far.
Second set of doubles is a men's and we are hitting alot harder and I can match them, the spin is now coming and the balls are still staying in. Comparing this to Devil Spin I would say it hasn't got the same amount of spin but it has the comfort / control/ feel. I think the tension maintenance will be better than the Devil Spin (I will have to wait and see)
I think this string is going to grow on me and will become another " very good Spin string"
If it was a smaller guage string I think it would be better (for me)
I will keep playing with it and we shall see.

I did string it at 50Ibs and had no issue, it dropped to 49Ibs after 24 hours.

Great video from RacquetQuest "when it's time for a restring?"

So, it has been a while since you had your racquet strung and you are standing on the court about to receive and you ask yourself; “I wonder when I should get my racquet strung”.
Now is probably not the best time to think of it but if you do simply take a look at the short video for a quick answer;

I have been wanting to test this string for a long tine in My Powerangle Centric racket., but everytime I tried string with it the string snapped.
Well I purchased some more and resrtung my Powerangle and yeah it didn't snap.
String with it is easy but with a constant pull machine let the string settle on each pull.
Didn't kink or have any other issues.
I used my normal tension of 53Ibs which is my reference tension for this racket.
Played a men's doubles game and was impressed, You have to use a full swing to get the most out of the string but when you do the racket comes alive!
Serves popped and my kick serve jumped higher than usual, drives and slices with a full swing (don't hold back) very very good.
Control is good, spin is good, power is good had no issues with the comfort so all good !
I will use it till it breaks and let you know how I got on.
On reflection, would I recommend this string? no, why because it snapped 2 out of 3, so it failed  66%
It is a good string but really no I cannot recommend it as it's failure rate did not overcome it's good points.
This is my honest review that this string is great but fails on the installation, it just breaks for no reason?
I really wanted this string to be good but it failed , so sorry.

New Pro's Pro Eruption tennis string ordered to test:

Pro's Pro Eruption: incredible power and acceleration of this new PREMIUM co-polyester string.
• 6-sided (hexagonal) profile
• Extremely high spin
• Excellent control
• Outstanding tension consistency •
Lively feel
• Very durable
• Thanks to special components very good comfort

• Color: neon-green
• Made in Germany

Ordered today will update when it arrives.

String arrived and yes it is a bright as the image, I had to get a magnifying glass to check the 6-sided profile and yes it is six sided but not a sharp as I expected. The string didn't kink at all so that's good. Feels softer that a normal co-poly so that might be good for the comfort. Anyway as always I had strung my Powerangle Centric at 53Ibs and the Dynamic Tension is 33DT  which is the same as my go to string (Devil Spin) so all good !
Will test leave the racket for 24Hrs and retest the Dynamic Tension to see what the initial tension loss is.
Tested the racket for  the racket has lost 1 Ibs tension so it is now 52 Ibs.
I am more than happy with that a really low tension drop for the first 24 Hrs.
Now if it would stop raining I will be able to test it!
Played 3 sets of singles indoors today, the string is powerful, has a very good spin profile, the control is good and it does have a good feel. What I did notice was more kick off my topspin forehand and more kick on my serve.
Is it as good as my go to string (Devil Spin) yes I think it is!
So I will keep this string and carry on playing with it till it goes out of tension.

New string on it's way

Another Pro's Pro string :-)
Cyclone Power is an ultra-smooth, highly elastic soft and round co-poly.
Made in Germany, it is formed with a blend of soft resins that have extremely low friction to maximize spin.
The ultra-smooth surface allows the elastic string to cradle the ball and snap back in a flash during the shot, resulting in explosive power, directional control and extra comfort.  (well that's what they say, can't wait to try it out)
String arrived yeah!
Strung one of my Powerangle rackets at 53Ibs /  24kilos on a constant pull electronic stringing machine (as always)
First impression: no kinking, does stretch a bit more than my normal string, easy to string so happy.
The dynamic tension was 33 DT which equates to 49Ibs .
(Dynamic Tension (DT) is what you feel when playing, also has been called string bed stiffness.
So I will let the racket rest and retest the DT tomorrow to work out the tension loss in the first 24 hrs.
I left the racket for 48 hrs and retested the DT and it's now 31DT which equates to 46Ibs which is a 6% drop in the first 48 hrs, This is within the normal tension drop for this type of string.
Haven't played with the racket / string yet as it's is raining :-(

Stopped raining yeah!
Played 4 sets of men's doubles today, first impression of the string:
More power than expected, it is very comfortable, it produced spin but a bit less than I am used to but not bad for a smooth poly, slice drop shots worked really well, volleys were good, serves went were I wanted them to.
So a really nice good string.
Another good string from Pro's' Pro :-)

In the photo the string looks gold but it's silver !

Pro's Pro Revoltec 1.25mm

Pro's Pro Revoltec: This new high tech co-polyester string features a revolutionary good performance. Extreme power while delivering outstanding control, retention of tension, excellent durability and superb play.

OK that is the "promo" for this string!

So I will test it, Stringing: coil memory as per any poly string stop kinking please! The string gets softer as you string, no wire feeling as you string, not a lot of string burn between cross / mains so good.
Right I have strung my Powerangle Centric at 53Ibs (my go to tension for this racket) Now I wait till Wednesday before I play again!
I will be back!

Ok played men's double s today with the Pro's Pro Revoltec string : Really impressive it has the power, control, feel and spin. Volleys pop of the racket, drives were deeper and with more kick.
Serves were faster and the Topspin serve kicked higher. So I will carry on using this string and report back.

Played men's singles with this string today, really impressive , ground strokes, serves, volleys all had "pop" the touch / backspin on the drops were amazing.
So another really good string from Pro's Pro

I know it doesn't look much but this combination for me is the best ever!
A Powerangle Centric 18 x 18 diagonal strung racket and the co poly with the most "bite" and spin ever Pro's Pro Devil Spin If you have never tried either a Powerangle racket or the Devil Spin then you are missing out!
I know because I use my powerangle rackets as test beds for all strings, This is just great for my game.
Cheers!

New String to Test: Pro's Pro Gutex Ultra 17

Picture
Discover the feel of natural gut with this soft & arm-friendly multifilament string. Hundreds of fine strands form compressed fibers to make up the core, which is wrapped with a double layer of high-grade monofilaments to increase playability.

This is a really soft multi string very easy to string, no kinking, knots are easy, it is pre-stretched but still a lot of stretching when tensioning.
So how does it play: This really is a soft string but has a little more pop then most multi's, spin is average but depth control is very good, could direct the serves very well and the return of serve was good.
The volleys were ok  (soft multi's are not very good for net players normally) Touch shots this is pretty good lot of control. Being a 17 gauge I don't expect the string to last very long but the balance between control, power, touch and comfort make this a very good string.
Played indoors for 2 hours then lent the racket out for people to try out, The combination of the Powerangle racket and the string was a crowd puller. The strings have started to move but I expected that.
Overall another good soft multi that is very arm friendly and plays well very similar to Wilson NXT (but a lot cheaper)
Another reel goes into my stock string list (really do need more space !)

The real cost of your re-string

15/11/2015

Ok here is a simple way of costing your restring,

Polyester will stay in it's tension range for 10 -14 playing hours and costs £16 therefore the cost per hour is £1.20

Peek (Ashaway Monogut ZX ) will stay in it's tension range for 30+ playing hours and costs £24 cost per hour is 80 pence

Nylon based strings will stay in it's tension range for 25 playing hours and costs £16 cost per hour is 64 pence

Natural Gut will stay in it's tension range for 35 playing hours and costs £32 cost per hour is 91 pence

There are other strings that will stay in the tension range for 25+ hours: Luxilon Alu Power Rough, Babolat Origin etc

This I believe is a better way to cost out your restring.
Please note that playing hours is also dependent on your playing style and your rackets string pattern.
(example 18 x 20 string pattern strings should last longer than the 16 x 19 string pattern)

Hope this helps!
